Charcoal on Paper

2025

For this piece, I expanded on my personal liabilities — laziness and indolence — by transforming them into a situational representation. The setting is a small oasis in the middle of a desert, where I am stranded. The coconut symbolizes my mind, while the coconut water represents my soul, carelessly spilling away. The figure depicted, a self-portrait, reaches out in desperation to quench his thirst, but the very essence that could save him slips away due to his own inaction. This moment captures the irony of self-sabotage — the realization that my own passivity drains what keeps me alive.

Personal burdens often lean toward darker aesthetics, yet I deliberately embraced a bright, almost playful palette. By contrasting the lively colors and surreal tone with the underlying heaviness of the theme, I aimed to convey that even seemingly lighthearted visuals can embody profound emotional truths.
